Saavedro, the author of the journal with the leaf print cover, stole Atrus's Releeshahn book at the beginning of the game. Releeshahn is the age that Atrus wrote to be a new home for the D'ni people. Saavedro is seeking revenge on Atrus (as you find out in the journal) because Atrus's sons betrayed Atrus and destroyed all but 4 of Atrus' Ages that he wrote. The remaining 4 Ages you visit in Myst, and doesn't include Saavedro's home - Narayan. Apparently, Saavedro's wife and children have died (as you later find out in a missing page or two), but somehow, he managed to escape. You'll have to admit, he does have a good reason to be angry!; Saavedro used to be trapped on J'nanin, and when he was, he was living in the very room you found the journal in. After he escaped, he has been linking to Tomahna (Atrus's family's new home) and reading Atrus' journals, planning his revenge. Saavedro has also been linking to other Ages that Atrus wrote after his other's were destroyed and making changes in the Ages.
